How to choose the right practice test
Start from the degree, not the subject: the university decides which test it accepts, and the same degree can require different tests in two cities. Check the course website, then choose here the practice test with that name.
If you are still undecided between two fields, take both: comparing the two scores is the most useful information you can have right now, far more than a week spent wondering which one suits you better. And if the test you need has a structure of its own — the TOL weights its sections, LUISS does not let you go back, the IMAT is in English — training on the generic version does not help: those very rules are what cost you marks the first time.
Frequently asked questions.
Which test do I need for the course I am interested in?
It depends on the field: engineering uses the TOLC-I (or the TOL at Politecnico di Milano and the TIL-I at the Polytechnic University of Turin), medicine and veterinary science the TOLC-MED, medicine taught in English the IMAT, healthcare degrees their own national test, architecture the national MUR test. For economics, the TOLC-E coexists with the own tests of Bocconi, Cattolica and LUISS. Biology, pharmacy, sciences, psychology, humanities, agriculture, political science and vocational degrees each have their own TOLC. Always check the course's own website: it is the university that decides which test it accepts.
TOLC, TOL and TIL: what is the difference?
The TOLC is the CISIA consortium's test, valid at dozens of universities with the same structure. The TOL is Politecnico di Milano's own test and uses a weighted score out of 100, not a simple sum. The TIL-I is the Polytechnic University of Turin's own test, with a technical-knowledge section (computer science and drawing) that the others do not have. They are different tests: preparing on the TOLC is not enough if you then sit the TOL.
Are the practice tests up to date with the current calls?
Structure, timing and scoring copy the test as published by the body that runs it at the time of writing. The calls change every year, sometimes mid-season: the official call of the university or consortium for the year you enrol always prevails.
Can I retake the same practice test?
Yes, and you should. Every session draws its questions at random from a bank bigger than what you see in a single test, so two runs of the same practice test are never identical. Retaking it a few days later is the most honest way to find out whether you are really improving or had just remembered the answers.
Are the solutions free?
Your score and the breakdown by section are always free, shown straight away on the page at the end of the test. The correction — the correct answer to every question and your weak points by topic — is free too: we send it by email, or you see it straight away on this page with an account. The guided step-by-step solution — the full reasoning, not just the result — unlocks with your first lesson.
