TOLC-I preparation, online and tailored to you.
The TOLC-I is the admission test for engineering degrees at most Italian universities. It is not an intelligence test, it is a test of method. I work through the CISIA questions with you, give you practice tests under real timing and we focus on the areas where you lose points: maths, logic, physics or comprehension. Want to see where you stand? Take the free TOLC-I practice test now, with the real structure and scoring.
It is not intelligence: it is method.
The students I work with
- Final-year high school students who want to get into an engineering degree: the University of Milan (Statale), Bicocca, Bologna, Padua and most other universities use the TOLC-I; the Politecnico di Milano accepts it as a conversion of its own TOL, while the Politecnico di Torino requires its own TIL.
- School-leavers who have already tried the TOLC-I and want to raise their score to climb the ranking.
- Students from technical institutes whose maths is less theoretical than at a liceo scientifico (science-focused high school) and who need a structured revision method.
How it works
- We start with a diagnostic TOLC-I practice test to see where you lose points.
- We plan the lessons around your weakest areas, not "the whole syllabus" in general.
- On a digital whiteboard we solve the official CISIA questions, topic by topic.
- Every 3-4 lessons, a new timed practice test to measure real progress.
- At the end of the course you get a summary of formulas, tricks and typical mistakes.
The 4 areas of the TOLC-I.
We cover every section, weighted in proportion to the score. Maths counts for the most, but logic and physics make the difference between a good score and a top one.
- Maths
- First- and second-degree equations and inequalities
- Exponential and logarithmic functions
- Essential trigonometry
- Analytic and Cartesian geometry
- Basic probability and combinatorics
- Logic
- Numerical reasoning questions
- Sequences and analogies
- Reading graphs and tables
- Strategies for managing your time
- Sciences
- Basic mechanics
- Kinematics and dynamics
- Thermology and calorimetry
- Elements of general chemistry
- Verbal comprehension
- Analytical reading of texts
- Inferences and theses
- Skim and scan strategies
TOLC-I: frequently asked questions.
Is the TOLC-I valid for the Politecnico di Milano and the Politecnico di Torino?
Partly. The Politecnico di Milano has its own test, the TOL, but accepts the TOLC-I score converted to its /100 scale (typical minimum threshold 30/100, check the call for applications). The Politecnico di Torino uses only its own TIL: the TOLC-I is not accepted there. The good news is that the preparation overlaps almost completely, since maths, logic and physics are the same, so we work on the common syllabus and adapt the practice tests to the one you will sit.
How long does TOLC-I preparation take?
It depends on where you start from. Final-year students from a liceo scientifico or a technical school get a good result with 8-12 lessons spread over 2-3 months. Anyone starting further behind, or who has already sat the test and wants a higher score, usually does 15-20 lessons.
Do we work on real TOLC questions?
Yes. I use the official TOLC-I tests published by CISIA as the main training material, supplemented with similar exercises pitched at the areas where you are weakest. Full timed practice tests come in the last 3-4 lessons before the test.
Is it better to take the TOLC-I @CASA (at home) or in person?
For your score it makes no difference: the question banks are identical. Taking it in person is less stressful if an unstable connection or the automatic checks of the @CASA mode worry you. We talk it through together before you register.
Can I prepare for more than one TOLC-I session?
Of course. The TOLC-I can be taken once a month (the first score of the month is the one that counts for rankings). We build a plan that alternates new study, revision and practice tests so that each attempt is better than the last.
Do you also help with the TOLC-E, TOLC-F and TOLC-S?
Yes. The maths and logic parts are similar and only the weight of the other sections changes. For the TOLC-E (economics) we work more on comprehension and logic; for the TOLC-F (pharmacy) and TOLC-S (sciences) we go further into basic chemistry and biology.
