TOL Politecnico di Milano practice test, with the real weighted score.
The TOL is not the TOLC-I: it is the Politecnico di Milano’s own test, and the final score out of 100 is not the plain sum of correct answers but a sum weighted by section. This practice test reproduces the real structure, timing and weights, and calculates the weighted score for you — and emails you the breakdown by topic and the correct answer to every question — with an account you see them straight away on this page. The step-by-step solution unlocks with your first lesson.
The TOL is the Politecnico di Milano’s own admission test for engineering degrees, separate from the CISIA TOLC-I.
Test in Italian, with an English sectionThe questions are in Italian, as in the real exam; the English section is in English.
Independent practice test, not affiliated with or sponsored by the Politecnico di Milano — structure and weights from polimi.it, original questions.
| Section | Questions | Minutes | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logic, Maths and Statistics | 25 | 65 | ×2.6 |
| Verbal comprehension | 5 | 10 | ×3 |
| Physics | 5 | 10 | ×2 |
| English | 30 | 15 | ×1/3 |
Scoring: +1 correct · −0.25 wrong · 0 blank, in every section (English included). Indicative minimum score for the ranking: 30/100. Fewer than 24/30 correct in English triggers the English-language OFA.
Two worked examples from the test
In quanti modi diversi si possono disporre in fila 4 libri tutti diversi tra loro?
Solution
Per il primo posto ho 4 scelte, per il secondo 3 (uno è già stato usato), per il terzo 2, per il quarto 1: È il numero di permutazioni di 4 oggetti distinti.
Choose the correct option: Don't worry about the report — I ___ it already.
Solution
Regola.

Frequently asked questions.
Is the TOL the same thing as the TOLC-I?
No. The TOLC-I is the CISIA test used by most Italian engineering universities (and also accepted by the Politecnico di Milano through a conversion), but the Politecnico di Milano has its own test, the TOL, with a different structure and scoring: no chemistry, a single section of logic/maths/statistics and, above all, a final score that is not the plain sum of correct answers but a sum weighted by section — see below.
How is the TOL score calculated?
Every section is worth +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong one and 0 for a blank — English too, unlike the TOLC-I, where English has no penalty. The final score out of 100 is not the plain sum: each section has a different weight — Logic/Maths/Statistics ×2.6, Verbal comprehension ×3, Physics ×2, English ×1/3 — so that the theoretical maximum (everything correct) gives exactly 100. The practice test calculates this weighted score automatically and shows it in your result.
What score do I need to get into the ranking?
The minimum score to be considered for the ranking is 30 out of 100. That is a low threshold compared with the maximum (100), but your position in the ranking also depends on the places available for the degree you choose: a score above the minimum still does not guarantee a place on the most popular degree.
What happens if I do badly in English?
If you answer fewer than 24 of the 30 English questions correctly, degrees taught in Italian add an OFA (additional learning requirement) in English to be cleared during the first year — even if your total TOL score is above the threshold. The practice test shows this threshold separately in the "Thresholds" panel of the results.
Can I retake the practice test more than once?
Yes, as often as you like. The logic, maths and comprehension questions come partly from the same bank used for the TOLC-I (filtered to fit the TOL), while statistics has a dedicated bank: every attempt draws different questions.
Is this practice test an official product of the Politecnico di Milano?
No. It is an independent practice test, not affiliated with or sponsored by the Politecnico di Milano: it reproduces the structure and scoring system published on polimi.it for practice purposes, with original questions written in the style and on the syllabus of the real test — they are not copied official questions.
