Financial mathematics tutoring, online.

Interest, discounting, annuities, loans and investments: financial mathematics uses a few ideas many times, and the exam mostly asks you to choose the right formula and do the arithmetic without mistakes. 1-to-1 online lessons that start from the exercises of your course, not from a standard syllabus.

Who it is for

Who writes to us most often

 • Students of Economics, Management and Finance facing their first quantitative exam.
 • Students who know the formulas but get the regime, the rate or the time unit wrong in exercises.
 • Students with an exam session close who need to revise annuities and amortisation quickly.
 • Students at technical and vocational schools in economics who meet the first financial applications.
How it works

A typical lesson

 1. You send in advance the syllabus and a couple of exercises from past exam papers.
 2. We set up the problem with a timeline: when the cash flows come in and out, in which regime.
 3. We choose the formula and do the calculation, checking the order of magnitude of the result.
 4. We solve a similar exercise alone and discuss where errors crept in.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What level of maths is needed?

The basics are enough: powers, logarithms, equations and geometric series. If something is missing we recover it during the lessons, only when the exercise needs it. To strengthen the basics see university maths tutoring.

Do you use a calculator or a spreadsheet?

It depends on the exam. First you learn to set up and estimate the result by hand, then you use the tool your teacher allows (financial calculator or spreadsheet) for long calculations.

Can I bring exercises from past exam papers?

Yes, it is the best way to work: those exercises show the type of questions, the timing and the frequent errors of your teacher. We redo them together, then you do them alone.

Do you cover NPV and IRR?

Yes, they are a common part of the course. We start from the timeline of the cash flows and the meaning of the rate that sets the NPV to zero, before moving on to the calculations.

Who will the tutor be?

Requests for this subject are assessed case by case. After the introductory call we tell you whether there is a tutor suited to your course and with what timing: we prefer to be clear straight away rather than promise and then change.

Send us the exercise you start from.

A 30-minute introductory call is free: you describe the course, the exam date and where you get stuck, and we work out together how to proceed.
