The maturità is Italy’s school-leaving exam; its second paper is the written test in the main subject of your school type; physics only comes up in exceptional years, which is why these tests exist.

Is the physics second paper the official one for 2026?
No. The official second paper for the scientific high school is maths, confirmed for 2026 as well (19 June) — you will find it explained on the maths practice tests page. Physics as a second paper (on its own or mixed with maths) has only come up in exceptional years. These practice tests prepare you for that scenario anyway, with no surprises, in case the ministry decides otherwise.
What are these practice tests like?
On the same pattern as the ministry paper: 2 problems (you do 1) and 8 questions (you do 4), maximum time 6 hours. They cover the whole Year 5 syllabus: electric and magnetic fields, RC and RL circuits, electromagnetic induction, electromagnetic waves, special relativity and basic quantum physics (photoelectric effect, Compton effect, wave-particle duality).
How does the marking work?
As for maths: you work on paper as in the exam, then reveal the guided solution one step at a time and at the end mark how much you had done on your own. The practice test estimates your mark out of 20 (problem 10 points, each question 2.5, as in the official grid).
Which formula sheet and calculator are allowed?
The ministry normally provides an official formula sheet for physics; bring a scientific calculator with no symbolic calculation (CAS) and no internet connection anyway. Always check the official instructions for the current year, which can change.
